Tyler was raised in the Amazon jungle by albino tree rats, until his hair got too long, so he moved up to UC Santa Cruz to continue his studies in bird psychology and the Uzbec language. He quickly changed his major to politics, so naturally after college he decided to walk the 2000-mile length of Japan
in an effort to impress a girl (kintarowalksjapan.com). After the 5 month hike he realized he was low on cash so he won the Amazing Race
and set off for Iran, in an effort to run from the north to the south of the country making a documentary called, I Ran Iran. He has since wrestled 100 Mongolians, hugged 1000 Cubans, and found the joy and love of humanity in all pockets of the globe.
With my documentaries I attempt to remind us that we are all in the world together, sharing the same joys and struggles. For example, when I ask people what they think of Iran most people instantly think of the nuclear issue and conflict. These are real issues, but there is so much kindness, warmth, hospitality, and humor in Iran, and I want to show that side of the people. Main stream media often focuses on the most controversial sliver of a place, so I attempt to help paint the larger picture, using humor, gimmicks, and topless shots to bring in an audience.
2...Why should (if at all) people trade for your art/artistic services?
I can trade video making skills. In the land of the internet, the web video is king.
3...What kind of help (if any) would you like in terms of your art and/or artistic career? Any specific people/institutions?
Help. It's funny, I'll slowly carve away on my projects, the months drifting by, and they rarely seem to finish. But as soon as someone offers me money to complete something - the project is complete. So, as much as I wish it weren't the case, I need help from the capitalist system to help motivate me to get working and stop watching net vids of kittens playing with rhinos.
Thanks Tyler!
